About the organisation

Live Unlimited is a registered charity supporting care-experienced children and young people aged 7–25 in Barnet to thrive, build meaningful relationships, and access opportunities that enable them to live full, independent lives.

We work with children in care and care-leavers, including those living in foster care, kinship care, special guardianship, residential homes, and young people who have left care. All of our services are free, voluntary, and co-designed with care-leavers, ensuring they are relevant, dignified, and effective.

Live Unlimited exists to provide a wide range opportunities to support young people who currently are, or have previously been, in the care of the London Borough of Barnet.

Through our donors we provide driving lessons, outdoor experiences, day trips and much, much more. These opportunities are often financially out of reach for many care-experienced young people without parental support but can help them to gain life skills, build relationships and reduce their isolation.

We engage closely with young people in care to understand their lived experience so we can best support them to make a difference to their lives now and in the long term. We collaborate with partners in the borough and beyond to enhance the lives of care experienced young people.

About the role

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Live Unlimited achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that we have a clear strategy, and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.

The Treasurer has additional responsibilities:

  • Financial oversight: Monitoring income, expenditure, cash flow, and reserves to ensure the charity remains financially sustainable.
  • Reporting: Presenting clear, accurate financial reports to the board, helping trustees understand the charity’s financial position and risks.
  • Budgeting: Supporting the development and monitoring of budgets, and flagging any significant variances or concerns.
  • Compliance and controls: Working with the LU team to ensuring appropriate financial policies, controls, and procedures are in place, and that the charity meets regulatory and legal obligations.
  • Accounts and independent examination: Overseeing the preparation of annual accounts, liaising with our independent examiners and submitting our accounts to the Charity Commission.
  • Strategic input: Contributing financial insight to strategic decisions, funding plans, and long-term sustainability.

Board Meetings: Live Unlimited has 4 board meetings each year, each lasting around 2 hours, and there would be preparation time (reading papers, reviewing reports, which will be sent out a week before each meeting). In 2025 we held our first Trustee Away Day, lasting from 10-2, and we would like to make this an annual occurrence.

  • Committee Work: You may be invited to sit on a subcommittee (for example projects subcommittee); each subcommittee meets once before each board meeting, and members may be contacted for specific advice.
  • Specialist Roles: As Treasurer, you will need to spend some time in between board meetings, looking at the monthly management accounts and preparing papers for the board.
  • Events & Representation: Trustees may be asked to represent the charity externally and will be invited to any events Live Unlimited arranges.
  • Strategic Input: At any point through the year, perhaps if Live Unlimited is preparing a new strategic cycle or planning new projects, trustees may be asked to give additional time.

We estimate the time commitment for the role of Treasurer is equivalent to around one day every month, although we are looking to move some of the operational aspects of the role to the staff team which may reduce the time commitment needed.

Much of the Treasurer role can be done flexibly and remotely.
