About the organisation
Atherton & Leigh Foodbank are a charity working with Trussell Trust based on the East side of Wigan part of Greater Manchester. The Foodbank has been successfully working to assist people in food crisis situations for almost 11 years and are now looking at succession planning with some of the original Trustees looking to retire during the next twelve months. The charity is in a healthy position with good cash reserves, food stocks and warehouse and local storage facilities.
About the role
Atherton & Leigh Foodbank are seeking to recruit Trustees with experience in one (or more) of the following areas:
- Finance
- Governance
- Grant Applications
- Health & Safety
- Human Resources
- Legal (Charity Law)
The Trustees may also undertake additional work for the charity between meetings subject to their availability and skill set. This may include for example attending meetings, training etc.
The Foodbank has recently become a Financial Inclusion Hub offering CAB, CAP and UNIFY Credit Union personnel working alongside. There are currently 6 Trustees and a local councillor who meet once per month in the evening for a Trustees meeting. The Trustees also are responsible for a full-time Project Manager and a part-time Driver.

We are looking for business professionals who want to help their local community in working towards the eradication of food poverty whilst also currently providing food to people who find themselves in food crisis situations.
